The Birthplace of Country Music® Museum

The Birthplace of Country Music® Museum celebrates the continuing impact of the Bristol Sessions, the first commercially successful country music recordings widely considered to be the “Big Bang of Country Music.” Hillmann & Carr served as the museum’s Media Master Planners throughout the design phases, then produced and installed all the media. Seven films, seven audio soundscapes, and eighteen computer interactives bring the Bristol Sessions to life and celebrate the culture of the region in this 24,000-square-foot Smithsonian Affiliate.

Visitors listen to the original 1927 recordings and learn about the artists; hear interpretations of the songs over the decades; examine the elements and remix them; and sing along with the songs in a karaoke-style booth.

Large-format theaters bookend the visitor experience with Bound To Bristol, a 75-seat orientation theater narrated by Johnny Cash’s son John Carter Cash and The Unbroken Circle, a 30-foot-wide, multi-projector Watchout-driven immersion experience celebrating the enduring impact on music today.
